The colour varies from light to dark depending on the season. It has a fresh and persistent, slightly mentholated flavour. It is produced on the wild lime-blossom trees on the Alpine slopes, and due to its soothing and balsamic characteristics it is particularly suitable for use in herbal teas.  It tends to crystallize.
