Campogrande, Orvieto Classico – Santa Cristina, Antinori (75cl) Tuscany
Appellation: Orvieto Classico
Grape: Procanico, Grechetto, a small proportion of other varieties
Producer: The Antinori family released their first wine under the Santa Cristina name
in 1946. Since then Santa Cristina has been a byword for quality and value
in Tuscany – now more so than ever since the creation of a dedicated
winery in 2006. The range now consists of reds and rosés from Tuscany
and whites from Umbria, so the winery’s location in Cortona, southern
Tuscany, is ideal.
Vineyard: This wine is produced from grapes from the Orvieto Classico appellation,
which encompasses the area around the alluvial cliff on which the city of
Orvieto is located.
Winery: After destemming and a gentle pressing, the must was cooled to 10°C
to aid natural clarification. It was then racked to temperature-controlled
stainless steel tanks where fermentation took place at temperatures not
exceeding 18°C. The wine remained in tank in the run-up to bottling.
Taste: The nose shows both floral and fruity notes, particularly pineapple and
banana, while the palate is medium-bodied, with more fruit and a round,
